University, Monterey Bay
Housed on the former Ft. Ord and the 21st campus of the 23 California StateUniversity-system, CSU Monterey Bay was founded in 1994 with a commitment to serve the historically underserved and economically disadvantaged population in the surrounding Tri County region—Santa Cruz, San Benito, andMonterey Counties. The University is located in Central California along the Pacific Coast and Salinas Valley, a region rich in marine life and farmland and known as the Salad Bowl of America, with a large migrant farm worker population.
Guided by a powerful Vision Statement, CSUMB’s commitment to educate and serve the diverse people of California, especially the working class and historically undereducated and low-income populations, and is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution. CSUMB currently enrolls approximately 3800 students, many of whom are first-generation in their families to attend college.
The University values service through high quality education and its curriculum is student and society centered. CSUMB has been recognized nationally for its “unshakable focus on student learning”, and ranked as among the “top 20 schools that create a campus culture that fosters student success.”
The University’s Service Learning Program is recognized as among the top 19—and one of just 5 public universities so designated. Intel ranks CSUMB as number 12 among the top 50 wireless campuses. The University is committed to invest in the integrated and experimental use of technologies as resources to people and as catalysts for increased access and enriched quality learning.
