Poznan
Supercomputing and Networking Center
Poznan Supercomputing
and Networking Center (PSNC) is a European research and development
center in grids, portals, new generation networking and operating
PIONIER: Polish Optical Internet.
As a member of PIONIER Consortium, PSNC is very active in developing
new applications that make use of the opportunities provided by
the broadband network PIONIER. Examples include:
- iTVP. A system of audiovisual streaming services providing
the next generation of interactive television over the Internet.
The recent transmission of the International Frederic Chopin Piano
Competition generated over 1.96Gbps of traffic (from Japan mostly)
- CLUSTERIX. A distributed computational cluster of linux computers,
supporting research on the new generation medicaments and optimization
of the fuel consumption in the aircraft engines
- Virtual Laboratory (VLAB). Offers a flexible system allowing
for remote access to advanced (and expensive) scientific devices,
such as radiotelescopes, spectrometers and microscopes
Another very important research area for PSNC is grid computing.
In fact, Poznan is where the European Grid Forum was formed in 2000.
Since then, PSNC has become a leader in grid research in Poland.
