The University of Chicago was founded in 1892, and within a short
time became internationally recognized as one of the world's great
centers of scholarship, research, and teaching. Today, the University
of Chicago has distinguished faculties in natural science and mathematics,
social science, humanities, law, public policy studies, social service
administration, medicine, business, and religion. Private, nondenominational
and coeducational, the University enrolls approximately 12,500 students--including
4,000 in the undergraduate College.
