Turning the Pages is a program developed at the British Library and makes it first U.S. appearance at the National Library of Medicine. The computer program uses computer animation, high-quality digitized images, and touch screen technology to simulate the action of turning the pages of a book allowing people to read text, zoom-in for close-ups and hear audio description of text. The book featured is A Curious Herbal written and illustrated by Elizabeth Blackwell. The book was published in London in 1737-1739 and features hand colored engravings of medicinal herbal plants. The video features comments by the director of the National Library of Medicine, Dr. Donald A.B. Lindberg.
