Leila Fawaz delivers the inaugural lecture, " A Coastal Affair: Life in Ottoman Beirut," a talk which focuses on a less turbulent and more prosperous time in the history of Beirut. She hopes that her portrait of life more than 150 years ago will inspire modern society to improve life in that region today.
