Description:
With the advent of virtual worlds, new dimensions of collaboration, peer review, indexing and archiving can be reached. These persistent environments could be ancient cities complete with AI animals and avatars, or a model of the human circulatory system backed by a sophisticated simulation operating on a cloud of computers pushing results into virtual world client "viewers." Henry Kelly, president of the Federation of American Scientists, unearths the possibilities that these worlds hold for building a wide range of learning experiences.
