A workshop was held at the National Academies on January 22-23, 2001. The first day of the workshop was structured into four themes that focussed on: emerging and future IT technologies; teaching, research and other activities of the university; impacts on the organization and structure; and impacts on the broad environment of the university. Each program in this series features one of the four themes and is led by a group of distinguished panelists.
Introduction to the workshop presented by James J. Duderstadt, Workshop Chair and President Emeritus of the University of Michigan, and background statement of the National Academies' interest in the topics presented by William A. Wulf, President of the National Academy of Engineering.
