Technology Collaborations

Below are a few examples of ResearchChannel collaborations. We welcome participation in several of the collaborative efforts listed. If you have ideas for projects you would like to collaborate on, please contact us.

  • High-Quality Media Networking and Development Lab
In cooperation with the University of Washington, ResearchChannel has developed this laboratory as a testbed to facilitate collaborative investigations into cutting-edge technologies. Dedicated engineering spaces and high-performance network facilities including 10 Gigabit Ethernet allow ResearchChannel to more effectively carry out its work of developing, testing and demonstrating media streaming and networking innovations. With industry partners such as Intel, Isilon and Johnson & Johnson, which have contributed equipment and software, this lab is in operation and ready to involve additional partners in projects of mutual interest.
  • Microsoft Research
Microsoft Research External Research and Programs has funded the Center for Collaborative Technologies at the University of Washington to continue the development of the ConferenceXP platform, apply the technologies to a wide range of educational and collaborative scenarios and strengthen the educational and research communities that use these collaboration tools. ResearchChannel’s primary contribution is high-definition video integration into Conference XP.
  • Nippon Telephone and Telegraph
NTT Innovation Laboratories and ResearchChannel plan to develop a version of iHDTV™ for use on their hardware, enabling HD video transmission.
  • Open Source Initiative
ResearchChannel has made iHDTV™ software available through SourceForge.net. We’re inviting participation from around the world for continued enhancement and development of the software. For more information see the wiki or visit the iHDTV™ SourceForge site.
  • ResearchChannel Internet2 Working Group
The ResearchChannel Internet2 Working Group is made up of members who have interest, experience or expertise in advanced networking infrastructure. The group enables working partnerships with key technology innovators and brings together a substantial repository of high-quality video and high-definition content. The group actively develops, tests, experiments with and evolves the next generation of interactive and on demand applications. (more)
  • VISIONS ’05
In an extraordinary collaboration that showcased the power of technology and research pursuits coming together, ResearchChannel, the University of Washington’s Oceanography department, Woods Hole and Scripps Institute worked to make VISIONS ’05 a reality. This collaboration brought the seafloor to life in high-definition video and gave Neptune project researchers a chance to incorporate high-quality video into their expedition. (more)
